Richter’s Cross in Oldřichov
A relief of a scene from Gospel of Luke is on the sandstone pedestal showing the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. On both sandstone sides are figures of angels coming to help. Although all the reliefs are from amateur artist, they are very detailed.
The cross was originally situated near the road approximately 80 meters eastwards from today’s position. The road was ploughed over in the 1970s. The sight happened to be in the middle of a field then and it suffered not only because of weathering but also because of vandalism. The sandstone part of the cross was moved, with the help of a group of foreigners staying in Hrádek nad Nisou with Liberecká občanská společnost during the summer holiday, closer to the road in 2011. All the stone parts were subsequently repaired, the missing parts were added, and even a part of the text was restored. A replica of metal stone was mounted to the sandstone.
